I watch a lot of old fights and we always debate these kinds of fantasy fights in the gym. From what I studied of Joe is that his weakness (its really hard to find weakness) is the inability to receive mulitple head blows from hard punchers and Ray has the girth and punching power to get Joe. Also Joe rarely goes for quick KOs, he's a stalker (with slow and heavy feet) and against a new school type fighter like Merciless, he'd have problems. Those guys back then, I feel, didn't approach Joe the way I think Ray would. I know my prediction may seem bugged out but I think it's the styles and I feel Ray's style would make it hard for Joe, pause. Plus he fought without fire, I think he was too nice. Also if you pay attention to Joe, both of his feet HAD to be planted in order to be effective. His style was perfect for fighter from that era.
