Weird, given that Republicans love boasting about Abraham Lincoln.
Lincoln probably also would've preferred negotiation to mitigate deaths during the US Civil War...

Of course, if Trump was President of the United States between 1861-?, he would have never enlisted African American troops, or issued the Emancipation Proclamation as he is a white supremacist.
There was no negotiating. Lincoln winning the presidency was why the war was inevitable. That was the line in the sand for the South. The Republican Party, which Lincoln was the nominee for, was formed by abolitionists whose stated goal was to stop the expansion of slavery.
