That doesn't mean they saw the error of their ways. These things aren't done out of the goodness of people hearts. They're done to repurpose and deeply- reimmerse elements from the practice, such as racial stratification and destroying the social mobilization of those deemed the lowest caste.

This is in spite of the systematic disenfranchisement of Mexicans, who were robbed of land, stripped of voting rights, and in extreme cases, even lynched?
