if someone did that that means someone goofed hard and deleted public routes from the internet. internet around the world uses BGP so to put it simply its basically like closing off a highway from an interstate
and then telling the whole world the interstate is closed
the real concern is that you can only do that if youre the designated AS and know
1) where the root originates from (whos advertising it)
2) who has the creds to even make modifications
3) fixing it is gonna take a monstrous amount of work
someone basically hacked a network engineer account or found out the bgp auth keys to completely fukk everything up
if that tweet is saying what its saying
i bet you the entire staff is at a loss of shyt cause that means anything that is google ip owned isnt going back to the net
and i gurantee they use a million services that call external for everyday work
so even getting people organized to troubleshoot is prob a disaster and a half
im super curious though cause facebook has to have a backup DC for this moment, so something really fukky be happening
