I guess I'm one of the few folks that liked season 4, it was more focused and on time, more humorous than satirical

The Boondocks was able to blend comedy and satire/social commentary seamlessly when it was at its best. When it was at its worst, it felt like the show didn't know what to say about a certain topic beyond surface level shyt. Season four was full of moments like these.

They rehashed old plots ("Pretty Boy Flizzy," "Early Bird Special," "Stinkmeaner 4: Begun the Clone War Has," "The New Black"). Some episodes had potential, but were nothing worth talking about or were just confused ("Breaking Granddad," "Freedomland"). At least one episode didn't feel like The Boondocks at all ("Granddad Dates a Kardashian"). The pacing was a lot slower and the characters were bored with almost everything that was happening. Granddad and Riley were turned into complete idiots. Huey just existed to tell everyone else how stupid they were, and he came off like some preachy, militant version of Lisa Simpson. They overused Uncle Ruckus and turned him into the most irritating character on the show. They left several characters out or barely used them. The storyline running throughout the season (the Freemans having money troubles) was never resolved and killed the season dead because it prevented the show from being what it really was. Episodes would just end with nothing actually happening, like it was Family Guy or something. A lot of the jokes fell flat. And the show had almost nothing interesting to say about society.

There are shows you watch that feel like everything else on TV, and then there are shows that have their own unique style and feel like nothing else on TV. The first three seasons of The Boondocks felt like nothing else on TV. Season four felt like a poor imitation of the show and an imitation of everything else on TV.

"Freedom Ride or Die" and "I Dream of Siri" were the only two episodes that felt like the old Boondocks. I don't know how much work Aaron McGruder did on season four, but he had to have known it was trash if he wanted his name taken off. :yeshrug:

Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it.
Funny I see this thread today after watching a few eps. from Season 2 at the barbershop this morning. Plus, I just got my season DVDs back from my niece so I'm good. Time to relieve the glory days. :wow:

I saw the interview on Rogan’s Podcast and Pops is getting up there in years. They need to get the new season and Last Friday done ASAP.

Y’all should check it out, Witherspoon had hella funny stories about the old days and the comedy scene back in the 70s and 80s.
