It would probably have been better to say Book knows that most guys with his past don't end up with the success he's had which would not have been possible without wrestling, he wouldn't have even met his wife without wrestling. He feels indebted to the industry that saved him and gave him a second chance and I'm sure he's ashamed which is fine but these white wrestlers didn't embrace him out of the kindness of their hearts, they knew he was a star to latch onto.
