Him being a man of faith and actually holding tight to it, so being a real believer, should be commended not trashed. A man who takes a stance and stands on it, is a strong man. We need more strong men in our community no matter their belief system.
You think Christianity is not the religion of our people, and that is fine. I think none of the religions are really true, though I admit I do not know for sure (Agnostic). Which I consider also to be fine. I also consider it fine if a person believes their religion and follows the dictates of that religion, showing they are a person of principle. So he is not messed up by our elders, he was raised right in his belief system to do right even when wrong is placed before him.
A man like that should not be mocked, but should be praised. You don't have to believe what he believes to see this fundamental Truth.

In the mid-19th century, Karl Marx wrote that religion is “the opiate of the masses” – disconnecting disadvantaged people from the here and now, and dulling their engagement in progressive politics.
So your assertion that a person that is a Christian is a defeated negro, can also be used to characterize you too concerning any religion you believe in. In the end though, what is more important is that you have the character and integrity to follow the good dictates of your belief system, not which one you choose out of the 4000 that exists on this planet. For those of us who are not religious, then it is important that we follow some code of conduct that also encourages good character and integrity in our actions and ideologies.
