Laughing at you n*ggaz like “ha ha ha”
I am not denying that. He was out of his element as the HC and struggled to adjust to his excellent rookie HC season considering expectations at the time.
The biggest issue with him was he was never a lead assistant or anything close to it. He was a player development coach and then finally moved up to becoming a defensive specialist or what they called coordinator. He wasn't on no one's radar for an interview much less coaching job till we hired him.
Within the industry, people seen this as the worst hire and a reach. After his rookie year, coaches felt LP could be a coaching superstar. Then he went to team USA and he blew them away. Most felt he had next. Part of the reason Trae gets it so negatively is coaches blamed Trae for this season till Nate took over.
I know us fans feel one way about it. Most of us really really dislike LP. Hell after the Boston game when Nate coached due to LP son being born, I was like, Nate needs to coach. He's getting shyt outta Cam that I haven't seen LP do in two years and Trae looks motivated. The Denver game solidified it. LP came back, back to the say BS, the Miami game was the last straw. I am not gonna hate on LP like that.
We wouldn't have any of these players if it wasn't for LP. Him and Travis works in unison. If LP didn't like them or want then even if Travis did, he removed them from the board.
Travis fell in love with JJJ as did Peterson, LP saw Luka and Trae and said they are much better for what he wants. He needed an ultimate playmaker and he felt in love with Trae the most. The scouts wanted JJJ. Thankfully Tony wanted Trae. Both loved Kevin.
Travis wanted Jarrett Culver. LP worked him out and said hell no but he worked out Hunter and LP not Travis told Hunter reps, we are taking you, close shop.
He saw Cam tape and was locked in as was Travis.
Both Travis and LP wanted Haliburton but Haliburton did not want to come to Atlanta. They also fell in love with Okongwu for the guys outside of the 3.
LP played a massive role in our hits. Let's stop shytting on breh
I personally don’t dislike him. I’ve given him credit for being out in the streets last summer for the protests and standing up for racial equality and justice. I salute him for that. He loves Atlanta so I salute him for that as well. But keeping it basketball he sucked. I think he’s a cerebral coach who does understand basketball, but he’s not a good coach. Take the qualifiers/excuses out of it (he wasn’t given a good roster, his guys were hurt when he was given a chance, etc). He alienated his team, he threw his star player (Trae) under the bus on a coaching conference call and never built a relationship with him. He was stubborn. A big part of being a coach is being flexible and building relationships with your team and he never did that. Hopefully he learns from this experience and gets another chance, but he was a significant detriment to the teams overall success. The performance of the team after he was fired is the biggest indictment of his job as a coach
Jury is still out on Cam at this point BTW
