you have a tax id if you have a student visa.

I don't have one but from what you're saying it's possible to get one. So, how do I do that? :ohhh:

So I just fill out the W-7 and mail it to the IRS?

are you a student in the US? if so I thought they gave you guys all tax id numbers. I would ask your school to help you get sorted out.

How were you able to open a brokerage account without a tax id number?

Have you talked to the company?

Did you file taxes?

TD Ameritrade doesn't require a SSN for international clients. I didn't talked to them yet as I wanted to completely understand what happened first.


I filed the Form 8843 a couple years ago. I haven't filed my Form 8843 for this year yet. I did a quick google search and found a W-7 is this what I used to get a Tax ID?

sounds right to me, I can ask one of my friends if I see her later

I'd ask your school too if they're helpful or the bank... Anything beats getting taken for $1800.
