I'm in paper until Wednesday. I think hope the markets will rally but the risk outweighs the reward for a directional bet for the way I read the markets anyways

Vix trending back up....
SQQQ heading back up, as the market opens....

Tomorrow could be interesting with FOMC...
Not expecting much until then.

a survey from PwC shows 50% of firms expect to reduce their labor forces in the next six to 12 months.

TSLA's chart still looks bullish :wow:

Any of y’all fukk with LEAPS (far out options)?

Want to do one for MSFT but worried about liquidity since volume would be low until closer to expiration

Leaps are cool, but you may want to wait until the market figures out what it wants to do. Otherwise, your options can lose value if the market keeps dropping / recession issues.

I do leaps and did them exclusively this past year. This time however I'm going to put leap calls on SPY and qqq and short everything else.
My new strategy is to short the market and hedge big rallies with leaps

Just took a look @ the 1/25 chain & I definitely expected MSFT LEAPs to be more heavily traded than they are. But then I looked at the 1/24 chain and it's more reasonable.

Two rules of thumb that I try to follow are:
  • 10% is the max spread allowed relative to the cost of an option. So if the option costs $1, the spread should be $0.10 or less.
  • The options should have an open interest of +2,000 over multiple strikes on the same chain as well to show that there is general interest from the market.

Looks like the 1/24 chain has quite a few options that fit that criteria. I'm far from a financial analyst, but if I was really gung-ho I MSFT, I would trade the Jan 24s and then if I wanted more exposure still, then a few months down the road, I'd roll forward to the Jan 25s as they become more liquid.

Edit: Also, tho, I strongly recommend you dig into this book or at least go to the library and read the chapter on LEAPs. LEAPs do not operate like regular options when it comes to a few of the Greeks, especially Rho (interest rate hikes). With the Feds making big moves, LEAPs are going to be trickier to navigate... There's a lot more room for error if you buy at the right time, and conversely a bigger hole to dig out of if you buy at the wrong time.
