I need a broker where I can trade US stocks I'm with TD Waterhouse atm and hold +125 in Barclays and +485 in BP

BP will be long term will sell Barclays once they improve some more, bought them after LIBOR scandal

Edit: Yeah I fukked up a bit with Barclays in the beginning b/c I bought 155 @ 172, 187, 192 & 203 and then I was getting a bit worried because it just dumped on the Libor and after buying 100 on June 28th I ended up selling 105 @ 164.15 and buying back 75 @ 162.24 so I learnt the hard way on that all within the space of 6 days, it wasn't a lot of money only a few hundred pound but it was only my 2nd stock I've traded since I got BP @ £4.09 after the Gulf spill (took ages setting up an account otherwise I would've bought @ £3 something

Looking for some more opportunities specifically in UK because I can't trade US stocks yet not really looking to put in a lot only really £500-£1,000

I like the oil companies (I own Exxon and Chevron). The problem you have is you're picking some of the most heavily regulated industries to in the world. So be weary of that.

I don't know how to solve your problem other than looking into American ETFs. I don't know a lot about how the British trading works. I know I can buy BP over here.

I've recently bought some shares in a few stocks and i figured I would pass on some tips.

NOK(Nokia) - recently bought a bunch of shares for cheap this week. New phones will SELL. Load up now while the stock is cheap

COH (Coach) - missed earnings recently, but will rebound for holidays

NKE (Nike)- new nfl contract promises amazing profits for the forseeable future

MSFT (Microsoft) - Windows 8 will kill the industry once is drops

These are some safe picks no doubt, I think you'll see some money on your pics in the medium term, the only risky plays are Coach and Nokia... I don't like putting my money in the hands of fickle consumers really, its difficult to forecast sales and trends outside of historical data... other than that maybe as a 5th play you should look at an opportunity in Market Neutral Arbitage.

Essentially what I'm saying is without telling you what I think to buy, think of the Macro economic situation that dictates the stock price of lets say MSFT, and see if there's a trend you can forecast. All this information is readily available online, and you can make a simple chart in excel.

Happy hunting :lift:

I was holding out on Nokia. I know they just released details of a smartphone, but it took a 15% drop right after that. I guess since it's cheap, I'll grab some up, but I don't have much hope. They've been a failure for several years now.

what about RIMM? what are your thoughts on this company?

I think RIIM is really going to be the big loser in this whole race and literally no hope of surviving the cell phone wars. I anticipate them to get dissolved into some much smaller indie cell phone company, or get bought out by Microsoft due to their impressive security software apparatus.

Check out Michael Kors (KORS). They have products in high end, middle, and cheaper end at Macy's etc. If it breaks 57.92 and the market doesn't fall apart after the election, it will run.

For good solid service consider etrade.com. I use them and have yet to be disappointed.

Another reputable online service is scottrade.com

There are a few others. Be sure to subscribe to a financial service or newsletter like Morningstar.com, Stock Market Today - Financial News, Quotes and Analysis - TheStreet, or Fool.com: Stock Investing Advice | Stock Research. I use the Mötley Fool service and their picks are usually on point. They have an excellent podcast as well.
