1) Nothing we know of came of it so it's inconsequential to let him run with it.
2) The same reason people apparently didn't like Drake but dealt with him anyway, especially 8 years ago.

Denied in what manner? Detox itself is a vault/scrapped album. If none of his verses or reference tracks were even picked up, then saying he "wrote for Detox" would be false.
