The NBA on “NBC” was the first time the NBA managed how the game was produced on network TV. When it was on CBS, the NBA was under the CBS sports umbrella and the network handled all of production. The reason they left for NBC was that they had creative liberties that CBS didnt give them. They even was able to pull the NBA away from NBC Sports production. Thats why they poured everything into MJ....especially when the league saw no profits from his jersey sales (Nike got it all).

Remember....MJs likeness wasnt on video games. Only Nike had the license to sell his jerseys, not the NBA . They made no bread off his jersey sales so they over saturated that dude at every chance they got. Thats why viewership collapsed when he first QUIT for a year and a half then later when MJ was leaving the league being uncreative as fukk tried to advertise Vince and Kobe as “the next MJ” which turned people off. I did a thesis on this in a marketing class I took back then.
