He is a terrible boxer. That's the truth. He knocks out guys but boxing isn't his strong point.

People always talk about his right hand but Wilder also has a great left hook which I feel is under utilised. There are many flaws in his boxing (guard to high leaving the body exposed, feet leaving the ground when throwing punches, telegraphing punches) but so far these things haven't caused him that much trouble.

Nothing caught up with him. He lost to someone that was better

I wholeheartedly disagree with that. Luis Ortiz is better than him for example. Random knockouts when you are always down on the cards does not mean that you are better. It means that his one trick saved him. He's not talented compared to his peers. He is a warrior that is down to bang however. He is strong but so are many other heavyweights. You are not good when your best weapon is taken away and then you get ragdolled because you have nothing else to rely on. Poor jab, poor footwork, can't fight off the back foot, poor blocking, poor head movement. Too many people gave deference to his power. That's going to change now. Put your head in his chest and go forward. It is the simplest of strategies. A simple strategy switch from the first fight to the second should not result in outcome that we saw. It was domination.

I said this in another thread Wilder is an elite talent but his fundamentals are shaky, he is overly reliant on that right hand and he doesn't have the moveset to maximize on it or even have solid punches that can keep opponents honest. Tyson Fury figured that out and neutralized him. If Deontay Wilder wasn't so tough he would gone down much earlier.

Mike Tyson weighed in recently...

"Deontay Wilder, he's knocking out everybody, but you know... he hasn't fought a rated guy yet.

He [should have fought a real guy] before he fought [Wladimir] Klitschko, but fought this other guy: the gentlemen from Haiti, [Bermane] Stiverne. He should fight some contenders.

That's what's wrong with fighting now. That's why boxing is such a dull-drum right now because you know who is going to win the fight before the fight even starts.

And the boxers are not evenly matched, and if they don't want to fight guys who they believe are gonna help them push themselves, [then] that shows they don't have much confidence in their ability.

Boxing is about being pushed, about being challenged, about challenging yourself. [...] They talk about Rocky Marciano [being] 49-0. Rocky Marciano got his a**e kicked -- he fought for that [zero].

He fought the best fighters, they beat his a**e, he came back! He didn't have that undefeated record by osmosis. He fought for it. He fought for it.

These guys are not fighting for their undefeated records. Look at [Muhammad] Ali, the greatest fighter that ever lived and he lost. No-one's ever going to be better than him, he's the greatest fighter that ever lived and he lost.

So, being undefeated doesn't mean anything if you don't push yourself and go through the test."
