I don't know how his career was moved and directed initially. He has only gotten a real push in the US just recently when HBO started putting up some money to help build his promotion. Pretty common occurrence among European fighters.

One of his first big matchup was supposed to be vs. Sturm 2-3 years ago and Sturm ducked him. At that time it would have been a good matchup.

Resume, division strength, who he can get to fight him etc...I can't see a real strong argument for anyone not considering him the #1 fighter at 160. He wants to prove that fully in the ring, hence why he wants to unify all belts.
