What would’ve been one of the most appealing fights of the summer is definitely dead.<Promoter Bob Arum confirmed to BoxingScene.com on Wednesday night that negotiations for the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.-Gennady Golovkin pay-per-view fight have ceased and that both boxers are headed in different directions. Chavez (48-1-1, 32 KOs, 1 NC) was interested in boxing Golovkin, according to Arum, but for an unspecified purse that was more than Arum’s Top Rank Inc. was willing to pay the popular Mexican fighter for facing Kazakhstan’s Golovkin (29-0, 26 KOs).

The fight tentatively was scheduled to take place July 19 at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., and would’ve been broadcast by HBO Pay-Per-View. “He wanted to fight Golovkin, I think, but on crazy terms and all that sort of stuff,” Arum said. “So we can’t do the Golovkin fight now, but maybe down the road we can do it.” The enigmatic Chavez reportedly is considering a lucrative alliance with influential adviser Al Haymon and was wary of signing a contract extension with Top Rank. Regardless, Chavez’s road will be full of obstacles if he is thinking about trying to change promoters. Arum added that his company, which co-promotes Chavez with Fernando Beltran’s Zanfer Promotions, has an iron-clad contract with the 28-year-old Chavez that doesn’t end for nearly another year-and-a-half. “We have until the fall in 2015,” Arum said. “That’s where his contract goes, whether it’s one fight or more than one fight. He passed on this opportunity. We’re prepared to offer him another fight as we go. In other words, if he doesn’t want to extend the contract, that’s fine. But we have a contract that goes until October of 2015. So that’s what they haven’t explained to him. When we said we wanted another fight for him after this [Golovkin] fight, what we were saying was within the period of time of our contract. But you have everybody buzzing in his ear, so that’s unfortunate. But we’re going to offer him another fight and, as I said, we’ll offer him a couple of fights and we won’t extend his contract past where it is now, which is the end of October 2015.”

Meanwhile, Golovkin’s handlers hope to find another opponent for the unbeaten WBA middleweight champion soon. One of boxing’s most powerful punchers was willing to move up eight pounds to challenge Chavez, but is more likely now to remain at middleweight to attempt another title defense

from the home of coca-cola, i'm not referring to s
chavez career about to be in limbo..dude can't afford to sit out that long although I have no idea why arum wants him to sign an extension so gotdamn soon if his contract doesn't run out until fall 2015

This where I'm a little confused. Chavez said Arum wanted a 3 fight extension. Was this supposed to be 3 fights after 2015 or until 2015?

There is no confusion...Bob is refusing to give Chavez the Golovkin fight because he won't sign an extension beyond 2015...Bob is trying to save face in the press by saying Chavez is confused and that he only wants multiple fights within the 2015 contract deadline...We know Bob is lying because he did the exact same thing to Timmy Bradley...He wouldn't let Timmy fight Pacquiao unless he signed an extension...

What is really fukked up about this is that Jr's contract with Arum runs till the fall of 2015 yet he wants Jr to sign an extension to make a match in the summer of 2014. If that is not a glaring example of some shady ass business practices I don't know what is. And Bob's trying to make it like the extension isn't the sticking point is total bullshyt.

But Bob offered Chavez the fight with no extension, he would just take a pay cut: :manny: Bob isnt doing anything any different from any other promoter. Why is it fair for Chavez to demand this huge purse over GGG not taking any risk that the fight does poorly and Top Rank loses money, then takes his talents elsewhere?

He was low balling him into signing an extension...

There is no chance this fight does poorly...

Chavez/Golovkin was the most anticipated fight of the year amongst boxing enthusiasts and you already know Chavez got the Mexican market on lock...

Nah breh.. JCC is signed until 2015.. Arum wants 2 more fights until that existing contract is up.(possible GGG rematch... Ward...Kovalev) ..Either JCC just wants to fight GGG on all JCC's terms, then dip. Or he's wants no parts of GGG Ward etc and is pricing himself out in order to duck knowing dumb nikkas will automatically put all the blame on Bob making JCC look like some victim.. Either way its bytchmade to me.....

Jr is still signed with Top Rank for another year and some change regardless of how the fight goes though so whatever happens will happen within the confines of the current contract and that is what needs to be honored. So why should Jr be expected to take a paycut because he won't do something extra when he is still within an existing contract? At this point and time Arum is supposed to be advocating for the fighter he has a contract with not try to strongarm him into an extension. This fight should be Arum proving to Jr that re-upping is in his best interests because Arum can get him the most lucrative match-ups.
Taking the stance of needing the assurances of an extension when there could conceivably be 3 more fights put on within the current contract is shady as fukk.
