BP3 wasn't Jay's best effort but it was better than "Kingdom Come" but a step down from "American Gangster". Nowhere near "The Black Album" or "Blueprint". I did like it better than "Blueprint 2" but that's where it stops. The Problem with BP3 was Jay didn't really sound inspired anymore. He's made it, he's rich as hell, he has nothing to prove. This album was like a victory lap for him. What made "American Gangster" work so well was Jay got to go back to the Streets even if it was based on the movie he got to go back to that state of mind and linking up with Puff and the Hitmen really helped. It's funny, "Blueprint 3" made history when it was the album that broke Elvis record for most solo #1's and won the most grammy's in History for a rap album surpassing Lauryn Hill's 5 wins with 6. It did it over 2 years though but still. Yet it did not win Best Rap album, it lost to Eminem "Relapse", lol. Here's how I see the album:

Classic
Empire State of Mind - Say what you will, they will be playing this song for generations.

Sick/Dope
A Star Is Born - Cole was born, love it.
Death of Autotune - Industry dudes careers were affected by this record.
Already Home - Cudi did a good job. Beat sick.
Run This Town - Ye got him but the beat, hook and song is just dope.
What We Talkin About
Thank You

Average
On to the Next One - The beat is dope but it can get annoying.
Venus Vs Mars - Tim and Jay were really a miss on this album.
Reminder - It grew on me.
Young Forever - Forced sampled.
So Ambitious - Nepturnes and Jay have done better.
Real as it gets - Jezzy did ok but the song is average.

Terrible Weak
Hate - They should be ashamed at themselves for this weak sh!t.
Off That - How does Tim, Jay and Drake come together and make a song this weak?

Overall I'd give it 3.5 MICS. It's in the lower half of Jay's catalog:

RD - 5 MICS
BP - 5 MICS
Vol. 2 - 4.5 MICS
TBA - 4.5 MICS
Vol. 1 - 4 MICS
AG - 4 MICS
Dynasty - 4 MICS
Vol. 3 - 3.5 MICS
BP3 - 3.5 MICS
Kingdom Come - 3 MICS
BP 2 - 3 MICS

hey joe,

since this is jayz.
you have to supply a lot larger content base with the facts of relevence.
as to why you gave it the mark.
based strictly on jay's draw, history and relevence.
everyone would like to just say some shyt is trash.
yet, the brilliance of jay is.
his overzealous pr makes you have to include all the long drawn out facts.
as to why his shyt sucks when it sucks.
plus you have to stay on top of the commercial climate.
to readily recognize what material he will bite.
that will be ignored when people in the mainstream.
exhibit the symptoms of alzheimer and not remember.
the last records that jay bit that were hits.
when he bites a past recent hit.
plus gets to walk away typically uncalled out for.
as the disposable so-called art of pop music.
is not art at all, and just one wack forgettable record after the next.

here is my review of bp iii.

which was such a horrific album it really only had two good songs.
of which one was wack hook wise because every song swizz is on the hook is wack.
yet on to the next one is saved by the emulation of swizz's reuse of his bread and butter. high trigger production style that made swizz a household name when he originally drew.
