Will be interesting what type of buzz it generates once the marketing campaign for the Flash Keaton movie wraps up.

Feels like a movie tailor-made for 2009.

And by this i meant it looks a bit cookie cutter/by-the-numbers based on that first trailer. In some ways it gives off a more teen-inspired Spy-Kids vibe.

Now if it has strong word of mouth, it could have a decent opening and strong legs especially from the Latino community embracing it, since that's still a relatively untapped market in the live-action superhero genre. But in order for strong word of mouth, it would need to be universally praised as a very good movie with a compelling/wholesome story. On some Spider-Verse/Top Gun Maverick ish.

Again, that first trailer didn't do anything that felt compelling to me, but perhaps the next trailer and future reveals will.

Guardians proved you don't need to have been an established hero tho.

I mean most of these comic movies have generic plotlines. Outside of the truly good/great ones, the majority of these shyts are all mid at best.
Guardians still made use of tons of established marvel stuff like nova corps, thanos, ego, and adam worlock. Basically took all of the cosmic marvel stuff not directly linked to FF4 mLike the other poster suggested unless this rips off a bunch of barman villians for his movie he has nothing to establish himself around. Guardians may not have been established heroes but they had plenty of established villians

That ain’t happening.

The Spanish speaking Latinos I know watch Spanish speaking television and movies. The American Latinos just don’t seem as drawn to stuff even when the characters are Latino based.

Like Fast and Furious does well but the main draw seems to be car culture and less of the who is fronting the movie.

Nah, this isn't true. For example, the Pixar movie Coco (which is heavily based on Mexican culture) did extremely well in Mexico, and many American Latinos (especially Mexican-Americans) went to watch the movie. Coco made over $800 million at the box office worldwide.

Same thing with Encanto. It didn't do as well as Coco at the box office, but the majority of moviegoers who went to watch the film in the US were Latino, and it had solid box office numbers in Colombia (the film is set in Colombia).

You just named two family animated movies with specific cultural influences.

the reason why these live action Latino based movies/tv shows don’t break ground is because Hollywood usually just crams all Latinos into one. They’ll cast a Puerto Rican to play a Colombian and just throw some Spanglish into it.

What live action Latino movies are you talking about because we don't fukking get any?

Biggest movie going crowd in the country as well. It's a shame.

Jamie Reyes is a Mexican-American superhero. When i say the movie would have to be universally critiqued as great with a compelling/wholesome story, that includes executing on the cultural elements.

Which again, i got none of those vibes from the trailer :hubie: but generally speaking Latinos have been an untapped market in the genre.

Demographic breakdowns revealed they showed-out for 2018 Black Panther and the Spider-Verse movies in near equal numbers as black folks, so something's been percolating there that you'd think would be worth exploring.

Unfortunately the effort/execution by studios has been lacking, and in-part bc the comic side of things don't do a good job of generating stories or characters for them to harvest.

We were having a conversation in the coli comic book thread 7-years ago about how Marvel Comics probably made the wrong move with American Chavez (a new character similar to Miles and Kamala) by changing her orientation to LGBT and having that be the marketing of her character with no strong cultural ties, instead of marketing her as a Supergirl-level Latina superhero and future Avenger.

Not that LGBT don't need representation as well but it was obvious to us back then that Chavez was a layup for the Latino community. Granted I didn't watch the Dr Strange 2 movie so i don't know what eventually happened with the character's big screen debut or what the reception was.

You’re right. I’m thinking more about Diego Luna fronted Rogue One and Andor.

The later had the lowest viewership of an D+ show despite being critically acclaimed and really good.
