Then you sir, are an idiot.

Just like someone else posted, they got rid of Joe Camel and the Marlboro man because in the 90's they argued "kids idolize these figures" but did that stop the next generation from smoking, no. Just because you "hide" them doesn't mean people will stop. Cigarettes are not an impulse buy, like a candy bar or magazine at the supermarket. People are not going to the store for milk, see the packs and say "oh let me try some cigs", they go to the store specifically for cigarettes. I would agree with a legislation that put graphic pics on the packs or did more to alert people of the long term dangers of smoking, but hiding the packs isn't gonna do shyt.

I'm positive the numbers of smokers have been going down in America buddy.
Who's the idiot? There is obviously more to smoking than Jay Camel and some cowboy on a horse are you :troll: friend? It isn't an impulse buy so you should have no problem having the cartons out of eye sight since it's not like you change packs. From what I read in the article(which you clearly didn't read) is that the purpose in taking them off shelfs will remove the idea that smoking is some normal activity that's alright. If you have something in your face all the time you're bound to try it. In the case of tobacco you're bound to get addicted.

So just because the stores are hiding them to sell, does that mean people are going to smoke in hiding ? People are still going to smoke in their houses, cars, and walking down the street. Again, my point is, hiding them for sale, will not completely deter people from smoking. If they want to smoke, they will. Plain and simple

:aicmon: What does my age have to do with anything ? and when did I say smoking was cool ? Look, I know smoking as gone down over the years, but IMO I believe its due to other health campaigns rather than selling them out of sight.

Look at this way, 'memba when you were a kid and wanted that cookie before dinner and ya moms said no and maybe even hid the cookie jar, did it stop you from wanting that cookie ? No, you went and tried to do anything you could to sneak that cookie. Now if ya moms, had strolled in an obese nikka and told you thats what cookies before dinner does to you :flabbynsick:, you might reconsider going for that cookie :ehh:. See what I'm saying.

His laws are like parental rules and he treats the cities citizens like children. That's why he's been dubbed the Nanny Mayor

There are far better legislations that he could've proposed to deter smoking, than this one. Which has been my point all along.

how do you separate the "health campaigns" with selling them out of sight? how is that much different from not allowing them to be advertised on TV? let alone having the guy delivering the 6 o'clock news smoking a cig

stores aren't stupid. it's the same reason they put the candy right by check-out. or how the funnel you through crappy sale items, that no one wants, when you first walk in the store. they got tons of data on this shyt, but it's all geared towards selling a product, not their customer's health

I used to work at this hotel that had the minibar right under the tv. the minibar also had a window on the front, that let you see all the booze. so basically you couldn't watch tv without staring at alcohol. this is the same shyt. it's a serious addiction for many people, and they can't pay for gasoline without staring at a wall of cigarettes
