Breh. I'm absolutely obsessed with this story now.
Among other recaps, I let a 5 hour YT vid play over the course of a few days while I was dozing off and shyt like that. I'm really into this for some reason.
The story is crystal clear to me now and can be distilled into a movie.
The Judge is some kind of metaphor and he seems to influence everything that happens.
The Kid is caught up in the events.
It's a straight line really.
I wouldn't say it's a straight line. You should def read it. I think I saw the yt summary you're mentioning and enjoyed it but man...it's really one of the greatest American novels ever, well worth reading.
Major reason I doubt it can work is because of the violence and context. To this day there are people who claim it's a racist novel that casts Native Americans as savages who commit heinous crimes or are the victims of heinous crimes. When Cormac McCarthy died a few months ago there was def a segment of twitter losers yelling about this, and you also see similar people refusing to read the novel in English/literature classes at universities. A major film would give all those people an opportunity to muddy the release, press, reviews, etc. Look at the upcoming Scorsese film, Killers Of The Flower Moon. Despite him working directly with Native Americans on every step of the process, there are radical white people yelling about the movie being racist or saying a white man shouldn't be allowed to direct it. None of this is even coming from Native Americans, it's white people lol.
I had a teacher who said when she was in college and segments were read in class, some students literally vomited due to how disgusting the scene was. It was that first ambush scene, where the kid and the company are searching for the natives and then....well, you know lol.
I can't even imagine how you do the movie properly without getting an X rating.
