I'll try to post some pics later. My skin tone is dark. Like Ocho Cinco dark. Some people assume that you're Cuban or Colombian if you speak Spanish to them. They will almost always initiate conversation in Spanish. Some people speak a little English. The more Spanish you know, the better. It's a place where money talks. If you got the money to spend, they don't care what you look like. BUT they WILL try to take advantage of you because you're a tourist. One clown tried to charge me $2500 pesos (about $150 US) for a boat ride at Xochimilco. My wife asked the Uber driver how much they usually cost, and he laughed and said usually about $500 pesos. We ended up paying $1100 pesos like some suckers.
You will get stares for being Black, but only out of curiosity. I'm 6'4", too, so that adds more stares. I felt safe most places that I went. There were only a few areas where I was nervous and felt like a target. There is a wealthy neighborhood called Polanco where I got a lot of stares, but I felt secure there. They got nice restaurants and Gucci stores and shyt in that area. There are police everywhere in the city. Sometimes on every corner. They were staring too. I kept my debit card and ID in my front pocket at all times. My wife kept my passport and money in her pocketbook wrapped around her wrist. Didn't see any murders while I was there (thank God lol). Didn't see any crime at all really.
They have bars/clubs that play anything that you can think of. We were going to go to a reggae bar, but went somewhere else instead. You'll walk past some stores/clubs and hear them playing Michael Jackson and all kinds of Black music.
