BlackBerry announces BBM coming to iOS and Android later this summer

Although BlackBerry has been rumored to bring its BBM messaging platform to iOS and other devices before, today the company has made things official announcing at its event that support for both iOS and Android will be arriving in the coming months. The service will run on devices running iOS 6 and Android 4.0 or above and will be launched as a free app sometime this summer in the App Store.

They are 5 years late. Seriously. They should have done this a long time ago when the platform was at it's peak.

And the advantage to BBM was that it was PIN based. Independent of the wireless networks. Every device was assigned one pin and one pin only. So you never had to worry about usernames or logging in or people changing their usernames.

Will it still be the same when it's not on PIN devices?

edit: looks like blackberry is killing PIN altogether.

When Google can prevent it's services from eating up my battery than I'll start to use them more often.

I think they way they'll work it is either or as in if you have a bb you can use your id or pin

I dont see bbm working that fast on other platforms but we shall see.
