I don't think most White people are even remotely aware of the "melanin" thing, it seems to be the "self-love" and the (clearly transparent) celebration of Blackness that's really bothering them, especially of darker-complexions.
If you say Black women are beautiful, and they'll be up-in-arms about it furiously typing "ALL WOMEN ARE BEAUTIFUL."
The "melanin" thing is mostly so Black people can push retweets and likes from other Black people, who are also enjoying the "loving our melanin/Blackness" trend (which I honestly hope continues).
