The percentage of black students attending college has increased over the last 30 years

Black women are now the most educated group in US, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.

Between 2009 and 2010, black women earned 68 per cent of associate's degrees, 66 per cent of bachelor's degrees, 71 per cent of master's degrees and 65 per cent of all doctorate degrees awarded to black students.

The percentage of black students attending college has increased from 10 per cent to 15 per cent from 1976 to 2012, while the percentage of white students fell from 84 to 60 per cent.

By both race and gender, a higher percentage of black women (9.7 per cent) is enrolled in college than any other group, including Asian women (8.7 per cent), white women (7.1 per cent) and white men (6.1 per cent).

When it comes to the public sector, a quarter of state legislators are women, but less than a quarter of those are women of colour.

Catalyst found in 2014 that Asian, black, and Hispanic women make up 17 per cent of workers in S&P 500 companies, but fewer than four per cent of executive officials and managers.

The same groups also make up fewer than three per cent of Fortune 500 company board directors.

I love my Black people and sistas especially...but I hate to be the one to say the statistics here are bogus. Black women are doing well and that bodes well for all of us but whoever wrote this doesn't understand the stats

The rise of Black students from 10% to 15% is the percent of us OF ALL college students. It means we are finally hitting college in proportion to our population thank God. The drop of White students from 84 to 60 is not the percent of White students going to college but the percent of all college students that are White. White people (nor anyone else) has ever had 84% of their numbers in college. White percent numbers dropped because of expanded enrollments, their relative population decline, and Blacks and immigrant populations like Asians and Hispanics making up a bigger share of college attendees. Whites overall have a higher proportion going to college now like everyone else.

Also the by race and gender numbers can't be right. About 30% of Black folks go to college right now in the current generation so I think there are more like 15-18% of BW in college. I don't know where the hell those other stats came from, like 30%+ of White and Asian women go to college.

I am all for positive messaging but this type of crap delegitimizes the real gains of BM and BW in education.

Great news. I hope they're getting degrees in worthwhile fields.

I was called negative on my Facebook because I said something similar to this. It's fine to get degrees, but I see too many Black Women in Liberal Arts and going into social work.

Also, while Black Women are highly educated the problem of promotions and access to great paying jobs with low stress are rare for Black Women.

This has been the case for a while, Black women tend to be very educated.

I will also agree that a degree in general studies, liberal arts, political science, etc isn't getting you a job anywhere.

An educated Black woman with her head on straight is goddess status.

It would be more interesting if they are filling spots that are much needed for our communities. However, BW are always striving despite all odds. Hats off :to:

A poly sci degree is necessary.
