The thing is don't fire a warning shot at all. If you are under the threat of serious injury or death from an attacker, you point your firearm at the attacker. One of the rules of firearm safety is "Always be sure of your target and what is behind it". If you shoot a warning shot, you don't know what is behind it. The ceiling or wall or floor is not a target. The attacker is your target. If someone is truly being threatened, what are you pointing at the ceiling for? You point it at the target. No playing games. Movies and TV shows have "glamorized" that warning shots are the thing to do to "really" let the attacker know you are serious.

You expect to go read through law cases and get you previous decisions on situations where warning shots were fired? I know for a fact warning shots have been fired in hostile situations and people have gotten away with it. During the LA riots, people were firing shots and actually killing people. Not everyone went to jail. It's totally reasonable to fire a warning shot to dissuade someone from harming you. I don't need precedent to see that. If the woman had been white she gets off.
