It's late night hours in the dark. If he saw the neighbors door opened like that, it's not on him to go over there and be Superman. Depending on the neighborhood, It could've been an armed burglar in there, or who knows what.

He did the right thing, unfortunately the wrong cop showed up.

At best, he could've called her phone. But maybe he didn't have her number.

In the neighborhood I grew up in, a well known older man hadn't been seen for a few days and his neighbors called his son to come do a welfare check on him. Come to find out he passed away in the home...

But that's how we typically do welfare checks in our community. Someone knows someone who feels comfortable enough to go over or can obtain access to the premises. Not saying what the neighbor did was incorrect, just providing my perspective. I fully blame the cops for what happen and I know the neighbor regrets calling them.
