Dont speak to loudly breh :francis: you gonna stir up the ire from the "its my money i can do what i want, but sports changes players lives(even tho they own nothing in the very profession they work in) crowd.
as black people, we pay when we feel we don't need to do certain things. sports only help affluent white male be billionaires, while it put us as bootlicking super buck who's helping white males in keeping capitalism alive which is killing us

saw this doc. years ago.....
i hear your point and agree to some extent, but the intellectuals challenging Garvey was just the cover the govt. used to justify going after him. They were after Garvey before a single intellectual criticized him publicly.

When I was a kid.....guys that robbed people would always say "which one of y'all jumped my cousin?" before they attacked somebody. It was a cover to make it seem as though what they were doing was justified....and to prevent anybody from helping the guy getting attacked.
Damn that "jump my cousin" angle has been used on me before too when i was young...

Unstable mental health in the black "community" is real

This thread is sooo true

I persinally know two old coots ...

Both live in the same city got the same associates and friends

One was my professor at my HBCU alumni

And the other is a pastor at my Babymama's church

Both accomplished authors on black history in the south ...

Yet these two old negroes beef harder than... 50 and JaRule
:why:

On some ole..."he don't know shyt!!...he think he all that"

But I know the real issue one reps AA GANG and the other is a West Indian

Smh.. tribalism

How can you separate the 2?

It’s really based on a person by person basis. For me, I focus on my intuition/discernment about a person.

As an example, I get egotistical & control freak from Umar, but I don’t get a c00n vibe from him.

Comparatively, I view Kaep as very opportunistic & newly versed in the issues that plague the black community. The irony is that, even though I don’t trust him, I am still one of the few that stopped watching football. People that actually believe in Kaep did not. I’m not trying to toot my horn - just showing that it’s possible to step in line for a cause but not be for the person leading it.

*edit* Sorry. I didn’t answer your question at all. I don’t think you have to separate the 2 at all. We follow flawed people every day. The question for me is, how flawed is their mission.

There isn't one "solution" to liberating Blacks, not Garvey, not MLK, not Elijah Muhammad.

Black folks will have differing views on how to achieve autonomy and there is nothing wrong with a multi-faceted approach.

Like @ignorethis said, we should take the useful bits from each of these people.

What we should NOT do is work with others to destroy our fellow brothers and sisters but I have no problem with spirited debates about how we should progress.
