You're gonna learn that the black intellectual/bourgeois crowd are the most envious, cunning c00ns in existence.

But the documentary does point out legit flaws in Marcus Garvey's movement/character.

As you get older you just learn that most black leaders had great strengths but fatal flaws that brought them down.

But once you stop treating them as messiahs and as black men that had some great ideas for us to build on, those flaws stop bothering you as much.

Above the fray.
saw this doc. years ago.....
i hear your point and agree to some extent, but the intellectuals challenging Garvey was just the cover the govt. used to justify going after him. They were after Garvey before a single intellectual criticized him publicly.

When I was a kid.....guys that robbed people would always say "which one of y'all jumped my cousin?" before they attacked somebody. It was a cover to make it seem as though what they were doing was justified....and to prevent anybody from helping the guy getting attacked.

The issue is that black people are following (and critiquing) the man, rather than the mission.

All people will have flaws & most will have an inflated ego with any semblance of power. But the question, for me, do you agree with the mission. For me, I completely agree with a large part of what Umar says & his mission to build a school with a heavy pro black message for black boys.

More than that, I think Umar is genuine. He’s just too prideful to get the help he needs to pull this off.

*edit* Basically, I agree with you.

How can you separate the 2?

Low-key the biggest issue affecting the black community is internalized self-hatred, I call it the Alpha male & female Syndrome, some black people can't stomach seeing someone they perceive as weaker than them being happy, succeeding and accomplishing great things in life, which is why we have an ample amount of examples of black women tearing down other black women and black men tearing down other black men, we need to love and respect each other, but I don't see it happening, to many sellouts and double agents amongst us, my old head would call them rabble-rousers.....You ever gave somebody you see doing good props

Too many black people want to be accepted by everyone but blacks. They want white love, Hispanic love, Asian love, and even bi-racial love. But they're :scust: at black love. Our community is filled with a sad group of people who hate being black.

when we start engaging in black culture in black household across the hood, rather then engaging in bootlicking activities like watching espn or playing with out iphones, maybe things will change for us

Dont speak to loudly breh :francis: you gonna stir up the ire from the "its my money i can do what i want, but sports changes players lives(even tho they own nothing in the very profession they work in) crowd.
