A lot of people overcompensating.

Guys that haven't even fully matured mentally have been to war right in their own neighborhoods and they walk around like they're normal. Like there isn't trauma sitting in the back of their minds influencing everything the do in some way shape or form.

Nobody is a lost cause but that's why we gotta get to the kids before they get so far down that path.

Then you have guys that have done time that don't even know how to live on the outside anymore, they gave a compulsion toward living prison life...my family treats my uncle like shyt. He been in and out of prison since before I was born and is in a halfway house now at like 56 years old over some bullshyt..20 some odd years for a non violent drug offender. But yea he's supposed to come back home in a month or so and I already know how it's gonna go. Somebody gonna take him in, deal with him like they would deal with someone who is relatively sane. They'll shyt on him, reject him and he'll get back to the drugs.

I been preparing to try and keep that cycle from repeating, I think I can help him break that pattern.

I have a cousin whose like that, in and out of jail his whole life not for violent offenses but for stealing. Breh is a kleptomaniac and when I try to explain to his mother that it's a mental disorder she laughs at me and says "ain't nothing wrong with that boy" which makes me sad because he's a good guy.

Speaking about your problems is therapeutic, helps lighten the load and even paves the way to solving them. It is not weak, it is not stupid, and it is definitely useful. Nobody should be afraid to reach out and seek help.

Now if you're just having a shytty day and wanna claim depression then stfu.

I work as a nurse in mental health, so if any one have any questions I might can help somewhat. Or at least point you in the right direction.

The biggest issue w/ a lot of black people is that we don't know how to cope properly. Some try to just pray it away, and some turn to drugs/alcohol. This society also conditions many black folks to subconsciously look at themselves as inferior. This imo leads to a ton of issues that builds off of this.

One more thing: One thing that working in mental health opened my eyes to is PTSD. We seriously have an issue w/ this in our community. Ever wonder how a negus can just spaz out over the simplest shyt!? We always brush it off as his "rep", but it literally is a PTSD type of reaction. I think it's purposely not talked about by medical professionals like that (starting to see it a lil more) because they know it's an environment they've created.

Excellent post OP. Whenever I bring up mental illness in the community I'm always hit with the :gucci: and everyone switches subjects or they'll say "man up" which drives me insane. We got work to do man.

Even worse is that people will try to brush if off as simply a "race" issue, and that only white folks go to psychiatrist ect.

Our sistas especially need more encouragement towards seeking proper mental health services, and getting their issues resolved. All these stories of them snapping, killing, abusing, and torturing their kids is not any coincidence. Even worse is that a lot of single mothers are raising their kids while unstable.

Probably a good idea

There was a thread a while back with a depression test and I recall damn near like 4 outta 5 posters were claiming they were somewhat depressed
