“Black men have a tendency to pigeonhole themselves into the most basic medicore type jobs and be content with just that. That mindset has to change”

I was just on IG yesterday and saw this video in my feed.

This shyt annoyed me for some reason. Breh has been a field service technician for 15 years making $70K.:snoop:
I’ve been doing field technician work for a little over 3 years and am making more than that and I’m planning to get the fukk out this field next year cause that really ain’t shyt.:dahell:

You don’t know what that brother has been through to get to that 70k salary that may have him sitting pretty based what his financial situation is. I make about the same as bro and the path to get here was the hardest shyt I’ve ever had to go through in my life with all the layoffs, disrespect and setbacks I experienced that literally depressed me.

I’m so fukking tired of the need to put BM down when they are comfortable living at a particular income level because other people don’t view it as much. nikkas always gotta shoot down a breh happy to be succeeding just because it’s not what they deem as success. That shyt is corny dawg, can a nikka ever feel like he’s worth something?

We’re still underrepresented in stem majors

Its how they are taught, is the reason why it is INTENTIONALLY low. These professors know that they can teach any person to be proficient in the most simplest of ways, like earning ABCs, but they decide to keep the income gap extreme because they want it to make it harder than it should be.

Crabs in a barrel syndrome from up top.

Being "Competitive" is how salaries became repressed and how CEOs make a historical amount, at the expense of the worker's well being.

We need UNIONS again. Funny how you never vouch for employee rights.

We do need unions. But we also need businesses and high skilled, educated workers.

By competitive I mean being able to compete with other communities without them taking our lunch. Can’t form a union of others are locking your community out

We need unions as a stepping stone. End of story. Highly skilled workers (used to) get exploited (before the Pandemic). Even now, employers are greedy and dont believe in social mobility.

Only black men do that? :patrice:

Sometimes y’all think the worst about your ownselves.

…that is, if you’re a black man to begin with

Some people stop climbing because the more pay you get the more responsibility is thrown at you.
This is me.

I make 70k with a remote job and the work is pretty relaxing for the most part. I can get a promotion but that would involve me coming into the office and having more work on my plate.

I would rather just deal with 70k, do some side gigs to make extra money or cut down my expenses. I live in NYC too and 70k is pretty good for me because of my lifestyle.

There's nothing wrong with mediocrity... Except for the term as it's a negative way of saying average. Let me rephrase it.
There's nothing wrong with being average. Most people on the planet are average. It's the average joe that keeps civilisation running, functioning and maintained.

People who look down at the average man need to watch this and learn the lesson

Seriously, why were western cartoons way better during the 1980s, 90s and 2000s!?

I have to disagree mediocrity/being average shouldn’t be encouraged, celebrated, and looked at in a positive manner.
You talking that participation trophy, body positivity, self-loathing BS (no offense).

It's not about encouragement or celebration per se. It's about acknowledging that most people are average and do average jobs and there's nothing wrong with that. The Average Joe keeps civilisation running, functioning and maintained

No, I'm not. Refer to my above statement

Tattoos, lack of upkeep (hair and beard) and dressing ghetto can pigeonhole someone just as much as a lack of education. Folks needs to learn early on that the gift of Gabe while being clean cut can take you places if you lack the degrees and certs. Need to also pad your resume to community leadership roles like volunteering. My advice to people I always check as many boxes as you can to make yourself undeniable. Big companies are pushing DEI programs so being a monitory right now is a big push you just have to have something on your resume other than fast food joints.
