The indigo dye used in adire for example then rubs off on the skin like in jeans. The dye on your skin now becomes a sunscreen that your sweat draws out of the fabric.
The linen fabric spun from flax fibers also does this because of the plants chemical makeup. They have a lot of double bonds that are able to physically scatter the UV energy that is damaging to your DNA.
