@Get These Nets I'm always surprised when I come in threads and see that you've tagged me. I don't get the notifications. I think when you go back and edit in a tag, the notification doesn't come up. You should just create a new post with the tag.
OWN did a documentary on Sag Harbor which is the real "Black Hamptons".
Folks should check it out to see the reality vs. "Hollywood" conceptions.
You're right. Think this thread was made when it was the old board.
I made a comment earlier about the effects of the decline of Black Media. In the Ebony print magazine era, we got a chance to see a glimpse of every strata of Black life in America. Social class, region, age range, ethnic background. So we at least knew that these Black people existed.
If there was a media project about a sub-set, outsiders wouldn't be starting from zero, and it would give us a closer look into that world, either real or stylized fiction.
Those days are long gone. And tv, films, and social media give people their first glimpse into experiences of Black people outside their circles. These become the images and perceptions they feel comfortable seeing, never mind what the reality is.
