LeSean Thomas has Cannon Busters coming to Netflix next year
LeSean Thomas' "Cannon Busters" Lands At Netflix

Ava DuVernay is adapting Octavia Butler's Dawn into a TV series
Ava DuVernay adapting Octavia Butler's 'Dawn' into TV series - AFROPUNK

The comic "Black" is being optioned into a film
Studio 8 Options African-American Superpowers Comic ‘Black’ For Big Screen

Princeless comic is being set up as a fan as well
Sony Options Female-Empowerment Comic ‘Princeless’ For Movie – Comic-Con

I read the article and can see some of the points :ehh:, but I think a lack of awareness has more to do with it than black geeks simply going :hubie:to anything that isn't well known. Most people in general ( black or otherwise) are only highly aware of mainstream entertainment whether it be in games, movies, TV, etc so it's easier to look at a big company and want representation there.

Even as someone who spends too much time on the internet, there is always something I haven't heard about. I definitely think it's important to share and support black artists who people aren't up on, but I also have no problem with people being happy to see Sonequa Martin-Green cast as the lead in Star Trek or John Boyega as the lead in Pacific Rim 2.

I'm a grown man, i don't need to make excuses, If i didn't want to support black sci-fi series i would simply ignore this, but not everyone have time to look for this on the internet, BET and other black media outlets should use their platform to promote this, there's no solidarity in the black entertainment industry, they're the ones to blame, when they became famous they lock their door and don't help black artists with potential, the same thing happen everywhere in the black community. How do you think Star Wars and Marvel are making billions, because every white media support them and promote their shyt, don't expect the audience to support something they don't know, Marketing 101.

This idea is substantiated by UNDERWORLD franchise co-creator Kevin Grevioux who believes that the lack of Black sci-fi creators in Hollywood is because the Black lower class is more concerned with survival and therefore does not have the time to invest in imagination cultivation and unreliable creative career paths.
Been saying this all the fukking time. There has to be a sizeable base for this kinda content, and unfortunately economic realities stifle a great deal of black "geek" pursuits because
they are time syncs with little return, especially for one in the hood. Going to any event shows you that most of the people there are not poverty stricken, and have more trivial worries
than gunshots and whether or not they will get a decent meal for the night. A lot of people consider themselves geeks, but the ones REALLY bout that culture are few and far between
unless you live in a black middle or upper middle class area. Just about every niche thing I enjoy has me as the only brotha, or one of a handful:francis:

You're switching goal posts. I was helped by a lot of these dudes whether it be advice or support. Also white people buy shyt white people make and have been for ages.Black people don't look for black owned anything and rarely support when they do. The fact that you mentioned hood stories show that you don't know what you're talking about. BET is owned by whites, viacom. They have no vested interest in anything positive we do. I suppose this article hit a nerve, that's to be expected.

I think you underestimate what the black media does. I did a viral video and black media was one of the first to pick it up.
