In the media black men are promoted as disruptive, players, men that never want to settle down, harsh, uncaring, emotionless, and etc. White men are promoted as romantic, loving, affectionate, financially well off, loves to spend money on their woman, and etc. Even in the the Disney movie princess and the frog the prince was not a black man. Also this society does not allow a lot of black men to have leadership roles so when a black man does try to be a leader he is seen as being too mean, too dominate, harsh, and etc. Most African women that I know date and marry black men but I do see what you are saying.

yeah the vast majority of women in my extended family are with other African men or other black men,

but when I do interact with a lot of first gen African females, its like they want to completely abandon their heritage for whatever reason (they think black/african men are tyrants and to controlling, etc).

A lot of em wont even want to be with a first gen guy such as myself b/c either they think we're just like the super Patriarchal men back home (even though were raised here ) or they think we're too Americanized and want to be players

Its like damn if you do damn if you dont, so they use that as their reason to just date other men. i think its pathetic.

Not all (or even a majority ) of first gen women are like this but there are ALOT of them who have this train of thought.
