Our homeboy Duval Patrick appoints long time aide "Mo" Cowan as interim senator for the state of Massachusets! If you recall Jon Kerry's departure last week via his recent appointment to the Secretary of State in Obama's majority white cabinet left a vacancy in the Senate which Gov Duval was commissioned to fill.

Thanks to the efforts of another great brother in Duval Patrick, this country is about to be blessed with the minds of two great African American brothers in our Nation's senate.

Here's hoping one of these brave brothers will introduce a prison reform bill while in office..:smugfavre:

Weren't these two appointed?

They weren't elected. No "excellence" about it.

This still reflects poorly on the US.

Well, it'll be that way until enough black people get money behind them and run on that Patrick and Obama, everyman vibe. Unless, people want to go to a proportional system I don't these numbers changing any time soon.

The "BUCKEYE" Nation
I beleive since the end of Reconstruction, there have only been 6, now 7 black senators. The only three Senators to be popularly elected was that light skin Senator from I believe Connecticut who used to mess with Barbara Walters, Obama, and Carolyn Mosley Brown. Out of the three populary elected Senators, two of them were fair skin, or as they used to say in Malcolm Xs time members of the blue vein club. I don't really see this as progress. I'll wait to see if the Scott guy from South Carolina, and this guy can win their Senate seats in a popular election :ehh:

Tim Scott will win again in sc, republicans will make sure of that, this new guy Cowan is just a place holder, he is not going to run for reelection, the next black senator will probably be Cory booker
