William Wilburforce decided to dedicate his life to abolishing slavery after he converted to evangelical christianity in his adulthood.
He even wanted to drop out of politics entirely and spread the gospel full time across the world but his minister advised him to stay where he was where he could do the most good as a christian. He decided that ending slavery would do just that. He even reached out to Ben Franklin and the other big thyme ballers over in the states. The evangelical church helped steamroll abolition along. Also the quakers were a major player in helping to abolish slavery. The UK even abolished slavery before America.
If homeboy never converted to christianity, our asses would still be singing WADDDDDDDDDDDEEE IN THE WAAAAAAAAAAAAATER!!!!!!!!
Also Martin Luther King Jr. helped lead and usher in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. He was an african american preacher and activist who fought to gain legal equality for black people in America. He was able to mobilize not only the black church but other churches as well in an effort to give black people full legal rights. Unfortunately he was assassinated in 1968 while staying at a hotel in Memphis, Tennessee. He is most famous for his "I Have A Dream" speech which was given in 1963 on a D.C. civil rights march.
Also the catholic church is the world's largest single provider of healthcare and education across the globe.(They educate a lot of poor people) If you add in other protestant evangelical churches, not even an even match anymore compared to anything else.
The church pretty much pioneered the modern field of social work as well.
Don't be listening to those atheist CACs who hate religion because their mom took them to church one Sunday morning . There are bad christians but that doesn't mean that there can't be any good ones out there. There are bad atheist just like how there are good ones.
