Where are the Premier League's black managers?
BY BRUCE SCHOENFELD
Jun 1, 2015
"Though almost 20 percent of the players on this December night are black, I've spent my first hour at Old Trafford wondering why the racial composition of the staff moving through the suite-level concourse approximates that of a New England prep school, circa 1966. So I ask a member of United's communications office for the name of the highest-ranking black executive in any department. "IT, marketing, logistics, security, maybe a board member," I add helpfully. She twists her face in a spasm of thought, then looks to her colleagues nearby. Finally someone raises a finger in a gesture of triumph: "Those boys," she says, "downstairs selling concessions."
Manchester United is an international business with annual revenue of more than $700 million. It employs accountants, caterers, computer engineers, travel agents -- more than 500 people in all. The team's majority owners, the Glazers, have hired three African-Americans to coach the NFL's Buccaneers. So why, on this visit, does the staff have such trouble identifying even one black co-worker?"

Very unsettling and sad.
