Soccer is an alternative sport, now?

But on the topic it's mostly due to lack of interest and peer pressure. Im sure someone will make a case for racism too.

I remember when i first moved to the U.S. i was at a high-school where it was a pretty good mix of all cultures in the 90s. Black and White Americans, Cubans, Haitians, Jamaicans, Bahamians, Puerto Ricans and Nicaraguans, Vietnamese all over.

Anyway, We all used to play soccer in the back corner baseball field when it wasnt being used for practice. WHen we could we would use the football field too. But The american kids never showed any interest in the sport. It was pick up basketball or out there throwing footballs. "Soccer is for chumps" is what they used to say. Mind you i spent most of my time playing basketball and volleyball (my 2 favorite sports) but every now and then would go play soccer with the crew. But those same american kids i played basketball with would laugh and make fun when i'd go play soccer while i wait for the next basketball game. The few that would show some interest in playing would be clowned.

But all the sudden Americans are finally accepting the fact that soccer is overwhelmingly the world's most popular sport and wanna join in the party.

THe bottom line is black people all over the world been playing soccer for centuries, now. For all the resources americans have they can easily become a world power in soccer. The entire world has athletes. But Athletes dont just evolve. The talent and athleticism has to be nurtured. But with most of the interest being on american football and baseball and basketball noone is gonna focus the dolloars on soccer to allow it to thrive here and gain interest.

All that nonsense of americans playing sccer now is just a fad if you ask me. They're throwing some money into it now because there is money to be made in it even tho the soccer leagues here suck ass

It hasn't taken off in the hood yet...once it pops off in the Underclass it will be the same dominance as it is now. Part of the reason the women are so dominant is because they were frozen out of the other sports for so long so they developed the soccer game young girls. Now the US is the best team in the world and really only Germany and (sometimes) France are anywhere even close.



But its not an "alternative" sport.

Most of those alt sports (besides skateboarding) cost money to get into...the same reason where there aren't many black folks in hockey. The pay wall for snowboarding, BMX, MotoX and the sort are higher than with basketball, football and soccer.

I consider it an alternative sport because it's not popular. And people go out of their way to play it. Lol if I played basketball at the level I played soccer I'd be lightweight famous in my community.

The girl I'm talking to right now plays water polo. She's hella good. Got into college on a water Polo scholarship. She's black too. I'm black. I had a similar situation with soccer except I didn't get a college scholarship. She and I get no respect from our community for our accomplishments. We both deal with racism in our sports being the only one or one of few playing at a certain level.

Ain't no protests for us. She's might go to the Olympics and shyt which is huge. Team USA basketball has a thread stickied in the coli. What about soccer or water polo? There's probably not even a thread on the first page.

They play perfect soccer. Like the south koreans or Spanish. It's wild too because a lot of those girls are in college.

I'm making progress in bmx. I learned to manual recently and my bunny hops are getting better. Shout out to Chad Kerley for inspiring me to learn a new sport. It's been hella fun.

I met some black and brown folks who so BMX and we're going to link up. I'm excited to bring BMX to the forefront in the hood.
