I've honestly never knew about the word "akata" until this thread.

Breh, I never heard the word Akata till I moved to the south. Never heard it when I was in Africa or when I was in NYC.

Akata is a Yoruba word. Obviously, most Africans are not Yoruba, Igbo, or Nigerian In general. And even most Nigerians don't move like that anyway.

Ive honestly never even heard that term in real life ever. Which is why this thread is so sad.

Dawg...im a first gen african in america...much of african culture im still learning about.

Btw...i dont even go to those forums...too.many c00ns. I dont associate with c00ns.

And you lived up north most of your life right?

Back then, there weren't that many Nigerians up north, mostly Caribbean immigrants. Nigerians were mostly down south at the time (and still are to some degree). Thus, it's not surprising you haven't heard the word before.

And btw, this isn't a shyt on Nigerians posts. Most dont move like that.

I don't get it what's their beef with African Americans in particular??
Theres tensions on both sides.

Ive had AAs said that cause I was African I wasnt black.

I have family members that ive had to shut down for getting on some superiority BS trying to act all high and mighty over AAs. Needless to say ive seperated myself from some of them because of it.

Its messed up.

Those who have an issue with AAs are just trying to make themselves look good, to be perfectly honest. Trying to not be associated with "negativity". Same ol bullshyt. Funny thing is they, especially the younger ones, will use AA culture to their advantage when convienient.

They are like AA c00ns: not a reflection of all AAs and a loud minority amongst their group.

Yep...ive lived up north all my life. Originally from Pittsburgh now live in Queens. Im also part West Indian.

Funny enough most of my friends are African American. And spanish. I grew up in a predominantly white suburb and went to predominantly white schools. I dont even have many white friends now...just associates and thats it.

Tribalism carried over to America.

Nah, it's white surpremacy bs.

Most Africans prior to coming to America never met an AA in their lives. All they know is what they see from tv. And we all know how the mainstream media portrays black ppl in the US.

So they come to the U.S. with preconceived notions in their heads and for a bunch, all it takes is a few bad experience with AAs for them to write them off.

Meanwhile, they will get along with other Africans or even white people, so it's not even african tribalism like that.
