I know a few of us have talked about BC in the random thoughts thread, so I figured it would be nice to have a thread specifically about BC.

Have you ever been on BC?
If so, which ones?
Is there one that you loved/hated?
Did you have any side effects?
How long were you on BC?

So far, I've used:
The Nuva ring
Was good at first, but after a while I noticed I started getting headaches. They probably could have been considered migraines. They would last a week if I didn't take medicine at the moment I started feeling pain. I think the headaches would start the say after I took the Nuva ring out.
Also, I noticed I would get a dime size bald spot if I used the rings back to back.
No sex drive.
I don't remember how long I was on it, but it was at least 5 years

Depo shot
I was on this also for about 5 years.
No sex drive
No periods
I think being on this gave me a little stomach pudge when I was on it.
I only gained about 2 lbs a year.

Seasonique (the generic)
Been on it for a little over a month.
My whole goal for being on it was to not get my period. And what do I have now? My period. :shaq2:
I've had cramp for the last 4 days. (Off BC my cramps only last 1 day, and my period 3 days)
Possibly has lessened my libido. (Not like the other 2, but I'm not horny all the time either).
it does seem to lessen the amt of vaginal fluids- which is good.

All I've used are condoms. Idk if I want to mess with hormones because my menstrual symptoms can go from 0-100 real quick, real real quick.

I get painful cramps, nausea and light headed depending on my diet before or during. I think it might be iron/magnesium defiency or dehydration. I might try Evening Primrose supplements to help with that.

I am thinking of getting the Copper IUD but I heard stories of it stabbing and poking through your uterus.

The 'Go
I've only used two and both were pills.

Lo Loestrin fe was giving me migraines so my doctor switched me to ortho micronor haven't had any problems yet. I do get moody/hungry/horny near the end of every month and I only get an actual period three times a year.

Plus pills have actually helped me lose weight rather than gaining :ehh:

Idaho.
I was on pills a while ago. I don't even remember what brand. It didn't work out. I ALWAYS forgot to take them. I had a few appointments for an IUD insertion but I kept chickening out. I'll go eventually.

Nuvaring felt like I was having heart palpations, but maybe it was just a panic attack. Dunno, very easy to use but didn't want to chance it

Pills a few times- never could make it a month without taking at least a few late

Depo- my go to on and off for 15 years, but I read you're really not supposed to take it that long. Light to nonexistent periods, no negative sexual side effects. Love it

Implanon seems to going well, I think it has lowered my sex dive though. Stil have a keloid scar from og noraplant from high school

IUD tried to get it instead of implanon, cervix did not cooperate

I've had an IUD for 8yrs or so. Up until last January, I had a Paragard, the 10yr copper IUD, and had no issues. It lightened my period from 7days (4 heavy/3 light) to 4 days. Because it didn't have horomones my libido wasn't affected but my partner at the time could feel it at times during sex but it wasn't a big deal.

Now I have Mirena and I feel as if its contributing to me being depressed and having anxiety because my body wasn't used to the sudden shift in hormones. I'm struggling more to keep my weight down or stable despite working out and lowering my caloric intake. IDK if its the IUD or maybe PCOS. The good is my period is barely there, it still comes monthly but its 3-4 light to very light days.

I told my dr I wanted lo estrin, because that what my coworker was taking and she loved it. She gave me the Rx for this raggedy ass seasonique. :upsetfavre:

I remember being on some kind of pill, years ago when I was like 18. I took them for a month, they made my stomach hurt after I took them, AND I felt depressed for that short amount of time that I took them, so I never went back & got more.

I had the Mirena a short while after I had my daughter and had to :camby: it. The hormones were too much.

I had the paraguard for maybe 6 years but recently took it out because I got tired of the heavy LONG period (10 days). I didn't have any additional complications with it. In fact, I'm probably going to get another put in before the month is up. I was going to switch back to the Mirena with hopes that maybe the hormones won't affect me but I won't chance it. I'll just have to find a way around the long period or I'm hoping a second placement will yield different results.

Edit: I got the paraguard put in and took it out shortly after. Now I'm on nothing.

My health insurance covers birth control with no cost sharing. So im considering Paraguard but they dont really recommend it unless you already had a kid.

So now im thinking the pill. Hopefully it helps more than it hurts. Ive heard horror stories about the Depo shot

I tried the Nuvaring. It was fine but it killed my sex drive. I took me a year to get back to normal after I stopped using it.

I use the Sponge if I have sex now. It works great and you don't feel it. The only problem is it kills oral after you put it in.

I was on the pill (ortho tri cyclen lo) for about 5 months. I got HORRIBLE headaches from it, so I switched to Depo. I was on that for 2.5 years with no major side effects. Now I've had the ParaGard IUD for 5 years. Like CinnaSlim said, it's mostly for women who've had kids, and I haven't yet. It hurt A LOT during/right after the insertion (they do give you painkillers beforehand though), but I haven't had any side effects since.
