It’s just ppl b*stardizing a word that once had a meaning and was relevant but now isn’t. In the late 2000’s and early 2010s labels would sign acts and low key fund them but wouldn’t say anything. This was in contrast to the 90s and early 2000s where labels would announce their major acts before they blew up. It was kind of important then to call industry plants out because those acts were going on media interviews trying to use the “indie” label to promote their careers and it was disingenuous to the public and actual indie artists. Now the term isn’t relevant anymore. We all know all these artists are signed and their labels are supposed spend money to push and promote them. Also most these artists don’t really act like theyre independent
