you should take some of your friends, put black suits on and drive around in your baddest neighborhood with the windows down while blasting this song and see what happens

Man, Season 1-6 I watched religiously as a young buck and then I honestly caught the series finale and a few episodes here and there in seasons 7-9.

The last mythology episode I remember is (SPOILER ALERT)

The one where the alien rebels burn up the Syndicate guys at the hangar and the Cigarette Smoking man sneaks away.

I actually liked the Mythology episodes more than the monster of the week episodes until the mythology started going off course. Some favorites of each.

It's the GOAT tv show of all time, that's how.

Season 1 was piff minus 2-3 episodes.

whole series is piff. even when mulder and scully left it was still pretty good. Robert Patrick was never really given the chance but he did a great job for that last season or so.

best episodes were the Duane Barry abduction story, the episodes where the alien bounty hunter showed up and they were in that old submarine in the ice, "home" :merchant:, end of season 2 cliffhanger out in the desert with Mulder being in that exploding train car :lupe: (that had me so :birdman: as a kid knowing id have to wait 6-7 months for the show to come back)

My favorite episode is probably "Musings Of A Cigarette Smoking Man".

The show falls off around the 7th season but low key some of the best "monster of the week" episodes are seasons 7-9.

That was supposed to be one of the last myth arc episodes. The show was done. If I remember correctly everyone's contract expired.

The show was a massive hit though, so they extended it another 3 seasons. That's why the myth shyt fell apart. It was done, then they had to come up with a bunch of extra shyt.

Oh shyt. So the super soldiers and all that silly stuff wasn't originally a part of the plan?

That makes so much sense now, because the story felt very much "closed" after the season 6 mythology episodes. At the end of that season when they found the metallic artifact in Africa and Mulder got sick, that felt like they were starting something totally new, and at that point I was a freshman in high school and wanted to spend more time with friends and stuff so I just kinda stopped watching. I guess it timed itself out nice.

What did you think of the series finale? I remember being let down by it. But I mean it's gotta be hard to close a show after 9 years. I don't think any show with a 24 episode season schedule can run effectively for 9 years.

Yeah, all that super soldier shyt was added at the last minute. Basically anything past the episode you're talking about, with the Syndicate being burned, they had to make up as they went along.

Season 6 would've been the last season. That's why, like you said the season finale "Biogenesis", and then the first two episodes of 7 "The 6th Extinction" and "Amor Fati" were a totally different angle for the myth stuff.

Although honestly all 3 of those episodes were dope as fukk. The problem is they couldn't freestyle for 3 seasons. If 7 was the last they might've been able to keep it up and close it out strong.

As far as the finale, I thought it was awful. But it is what it is, like you said it's virtually impossible to end something after 200+ episodes and 9 seasons. By season 9 I was just watching it out of loyalty more than anything.

Side note, "X-Files" being stretched out and ending poorly is why Vince Gilligan ended "Breaking Bad" after 5 seasons. He was a writer on "X-Files" for 7 seasons and didn't want "BB" to go out like that.
