This is true. Middle class and upper class gay people will never die of HIV, but the poor and working class can't afford the treatments. You could drink a gallon of Magic Johnson's blood and not get HIV, because it's not in his blood. The medicine blocks it from releasing into his bloodstream. It might as well be a cure...but not for everyone.
HIV infection rates remain incredibly high among gay men and I think a lot of it has to do with how the disease is viewed now. People assume that because it's no longer a death sentence that applies to them too...but it depends on how much money you have. Any many young, gay black and Hispanic men are not well off financially at all. To be frank I think stories like this aren't helping. This disease is ravaging communities yet the focus is on a rich celebrity talking about ending the "stigma." This is no longer a sex education problem - it's not 1985, or 1995. People know this shyt is out there and it isn't stopping many gay men from having raw sex. But because apparently being honestly about the specific risks of that sex - compared to other versions of sex - is problematic so we can't focus on it or talk about it.
There's a very large, very affluent gay white community and damn near all gay shyt is targeted towards them. Meanwhile the poor black, Hispanic, and even white gays are overlooked. Good luck with that.
