Besides the top 10 being absolute trash

Common belongs over Mos Def

Black Thought belongs in the top 25

50 Cent does NOT belong in the top 20

Andre 3000 does NOT belong above Ice Cube, Rakim, or LL

Kanye is NOT Top 20 as an MC
How Kanye not top 20
When he has the amount of classics he has?

He used ghostwriters

If you wanted to put him top 5 greatest PRODUCERS then absolutely knock yourself out.

But as a RAPPER?!? F U C K No! There are 20 rappers who write their own shyt better than Kanye and have great discographies. Hell there might be 30

Biggie in his prime wasn’t shytting on Nas and Jay was going toe to toe with him.

Biggie’s a legend but this myth that he was an untouchable MC is bullshyt
Technique, Style, Wordplay, Sotrytelling....biggie is untouchable. When i was young, i used to think other rappers were better but i listen listened to biggie and it :mindblown: me how he can put words together effortlessly...so nah i dont think nas or jay is touching biggie.

Kanye even with writers, was only great up until Graduation. After that album, everything was on auto pilot, which is why I laugh when people say Kanye carried Jay on Watch The Throne or him having the best verses on MBDTF. The "Def Jam poetry" era if Kanye was him at his best as a rapper IMO. Even still, his flow and delivery always left a lot to be desired.

In terms of classic albums, does that really hold weight any more? People will say most of their favorite artist's catalog is classic all the while saying an artist they don't like has 0 classic albums. Where's the objectivity, balance, and realness in that?

This list isn't a measure of who is better though. Skill was only one of the criteria and from the looks of it, it wasn't weighted as high as the other criteria.

Either way, this list lost credibility when Slick Rick was ineligible to make the list because of the technicality of not being born in North America. Like, they know Slick Rick is too big to completely omit and knowing this, they came up with a dumb cop out to cover up the error.

Nas is an infinitely better storyteller than Biggie. Better conceptually. Wordplay is a tie. Lyrically at their peak Illmatic>>>>Ready To Die and It Was Written = Life After Death

I think their equal because Biggie stepped UP lyrically whereas Nas was already a supreme lyricist but he got better as a song writer, which Biggie was already great at. So I give it a wash

I think 1996 was Nas lyrical prime so 🤷🏿‍♂️

I feel like the only difference between Nas lyrically in 94 and 96 was he was able to be more creative. I Gave You Power, Shootouts, The Set Up, Silent Murder, The Message are all very cinematic sounding records that allowed Nas to expand his artistry without sacrificing lyrically. Nas basically saw what Biggie and Raekwon did on R2D and OBFCL and said “Hold my Blunt”.

I wish Nas would’ve gotten ONE beat from RZA and used it for IWW. That shyt would’ve been EPIC
