I was liking @bigrodthe1's beat better but then the trumpet came in :smh:

I think he might've won if not for that. Seems like a lot were going to vote against him regardless though :comeon:

@Doobie Doo The beat really goes in I like the structure and the movement of the beat.

@bigrodthe1 The material is there, I don't hear this for an artist though, which isn't necessarily a bad thing I hear this more on a commercial or a quick spot for a tv show. the bass is there but the kick itself seems absent. That trumpet gave it a spazz out jazzy feel with cross referenced keys the tonality wasn't in the same key as the main instrumentation but it still made since if you're thinking about tonality. It just seemed like the wrong place wrong time for this instrumental.

Props to both

My vote goes to @Doobie Doo

nikka you're beat is trash,.ive told you that..I used to make beats I know,.what was the point of putting that off sounding trumpet and rapid fire drum snares..there's totally no point to that

I'm digging the trumpets, sounds like an old Kool Keith song I cant remember right now. But it could definitely bang harder

Doobie - There's a note in every other bar that just sounds dissonant to me. Like it's not in the right key. Which is weird because this is sampled. Going back and listening to it the 2nd time, it's not quite as bothersome. The drums and mixing and everything are dope but aside from the part that sounds odd to me, the only other criticism i really have is that it could use some more variety. I'm also iffy on the sped up vocals...they sound a bit cheesy to me.

Rod - The bass is dope but maybe you could dial it back just a little bit. Drums are dope, but I'm not a fan of the synth sound you chose. The melody is straight, but the sound is just kind of cheesy and weak. I also hate the little brass sound that comes in, it sounds out of key and weird all around.

It's hard to really choose between the two. Rod incorporated a bit more variety with his switch-ups and I prefer his drum and bass - but man that trumpet/sax sounding thing just bugs the shyt out of me.

Overall, I have to judge this based on which beat I'd be more inclined to use on an album. If it weren't for that damn sound, I think I'd be leaning towards Rod, because I really like the hard bass and everything...but the sax sound just really feels out of place in terms of cadence and out of key to top it off.

So my vote goes to Doobie Doo. Props to both
