I love that because it's Kurt Russell, everyone expects Jack Burton to be the hero but he's actually a lovable bumbling oaf and Wang Chi is the one who kicks the most ass, who's most highly-skilled. It's great because this could easily be fukked up, with the white dude as the competent adventurous one and the Chinese character as the one who screws up everything. In the end, both of the characters are still great. We can admire Jack Burton even though he's not as good as he thinks he is.

It's like it could be an ode to the Green Hornet (Bruce Lee version).
Jack Burton is the whitest motherfukker in the history of cinema. At no point in this movie does he think that everything doesn't revolve about him.

Back when I was procrastinating on term papers and projects, this movie was my Sunday afternoon kryptonite. When it was on, I knew I'd be up all night trying to make up for the time I wasted during the day.

I always thought the role reversal between Jack and Wang was social satire by Carpenter, like Jack Burton is your typical blue collar American who thinks he knows the ways of the world but like most Americans is completely oblivious to any culture other than his own.

When some wild-eyed, 8-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the bar room wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that:

"Have ya paid your dues, Jack? Yessir, the check's in the mail!"

It's a classic..
:Dig It:

Only knock is it ended on a cliffhanger...I thought we would get another jack burton adventure
:feedme:

It probably would have gotten a sequel but shyt was critically panned back in the day and I heard it put Carpenter in a bad position that forced him to go low budget.

A lot of his movies were shytted on back then but loved now. Makes me feel like people back then didn't have any taste in films :beli:

they didn't…take a look at the films that won best picture in the 80s..90% are forgotten, compared to movies that were nominated and overlooked:shaq2:
