Anyways now that I'm back home, my analysis on the MSG fights last night...
The crowd was live as fukk, Puerto Ricans everywhere hyped, made me feel like I was at a Trinidad fight
The was a group of Mexicans that got the beats from a couple Ricans
The fight itself was great. Alot of action. Verdejo put on a show. Everybody knew the could had talent. The only question mark was his chin and how he would do against a guy who actually was coming to try and win. And from what I've seen, his chin looked pretty good. The power of course was real, and cred to Najera. He took a beating, but kept on coming. If dude wasn't so tough, Felix would've gotten him outta there early.
I still have a couple things I saw from Verdejo that I'm concerned about ...
1) He needs to go to the body more. The power is great, but he does much head hunting. Sit him up down low, and he could've opened Najera up more and got him outta there.
2) He hurt his hand again, and it's reported that he needs surgery. I really hope he isn't plagued with hand problems throughout his career. That always makes me nervous
3) As well as he did, he was very hittable. A little too hittable. Everytime they exchanged, he was getting caught and countered with some shots. If he fights like that against more skilled fighters who are more heavy handed, he's getting hurt/dropped. He's still young though and still learning, so he can work on these things.
I went to take a piss during the break and the bathroom was crowded as fukk with everybody going crazy, screaming and cheering and banging in the stalls
Unfortunately, damn near everybody left after that and missed the Walters fight. Which i thought was a nice scrap. Everybody was booing and I don't know why
Since everybody left I was able to sneak into the front and get better seats. fukking Jamaicans passing around the reefer, getting high in front of me
It's too bad Walters is leaving 126, because I definitely wanted to see him vs Walters. Now he's going up to 130 which is a dead ass division. Outside of Uchiyama and Gamboa, there's nobody else up there I'm really interested in seeing him face. Maybe Fortuna, but he's too wild and sloppy and will get slept if he fights Walters.
All in all, a great night of boxing in NYC
