First things first, the 100+ million dollar question. Sign Ohtani who might not be able to pitch ever again, to the richest contract in MLB or pull off a Mookie Betts type trade with San Diego and trade for Juan Soto and give him an extension.

And in other news

I think I'm the only one of us that wants to stay away from trading for Soto.

Free Agent signing? Sure. Trade for him? Naa, I'll pass.

I'm so lost on the Ohtani front. I really have no idea. I want Yamamoto for sure tho.

I don't want Ohtani, I doubt he pitches much longer and then you are left paying a premium for a great DH but still just a DH.
I would rather just sign Soto than trade for him.
I also don't mind seeing Pete play under the same circumstances Judge did for his next contract.
I think they should kinda stand pat with position players this year with only small movies to make final decisions on Vientos, Baty, Mauricio and to a lesser extent Alvarez. Plus if any of the newer prospects make the bigs this year.
But I would load up on both starting and relieving options. I like the names they been connected to on SPs so far.

Guess Counsell didn't want to come to NYC.

I just read Counsel is taking like an executive role with an unknown team.

First time manager so can't say I hate the guy but not a good sign he is coming from the stat heavy Yankees.
Only positive is this is who Sterns wanted. I believe in manager and head exec starting at the same time.

I expected him to be back but I am not mad. Dude was an automatic SB whenever someone would get on base against him.

Counsel going to the Cubs.

After speculation Craig Counsell would sign with Milwaukee or New York, a mystery team stepped in.
Ain't mad at that. Chicago is closer to his home and they met his price. Assuming the money is equal, I can't knock him for wanting to stay close to home. I would probably make the same decision.

I'll also give Mendoza a chance. It's Stearns first major hire and if he was good enough for him, he's good enough for me

There's no reason to feel one way or the other over this imo. That's a guy Stearns liked so I'll trust Stearns on this. There are way more positions that also matter in what we need for the organization to get better.
