Like even RD and VOL 1 arent super grimey NY hip hop albums but certain songs like Where Im From, the Million questions/ Rhyme no more intro, Dead presidents, Devils, etc

But since then weve supposedly gotten multiple "classics" from Jay like BP, Black album, Vol 2, AG, etc but I never felt that again.

Its not just about Nas, but Nas, Lox, Dips, even Prodigy has given us waaay more albums that were straight grimey. Redman another example before he became a comedian with Meth.

But you get the point. Like black album cant be gutter with Change Clothes, Justify my Thug, etc on it

This is your 532nd reason for why you don't like Jay :troll:

And Vol.3 is probably his most grimey album.

nah I "like" jay no homo but he just dont give me that like this is hip hop feeling except on RD and parts of VOL 1.

Like I put on a styles p mixtape like ghost in the shell, Id rather hear that then BP or black album

Jay-Z & Memphis Bleek - It's Alright - YouTube

That's cause most of the beats on RD were from '95-'96... and even on there, there were a number of beats a little more sophisticated than your average grimy NY record at the time...

Matter fact, I don't know that I'd associate Jay-Z with "grimy rap" at all. He was never the guy rappin' about sellin' crack and robbin' nikkas... I mean he did, but not in a streetcorner kinda way. More in the way of a hustler who supplies the streetcorner dudes, then rolls by every week and picks up money from them... I've never heard Jay and thought to put his music in the M.O.P./Smoothe Da Hustla/Mobb/Wu-Tang category.

I think Just Blaze has given Jay his best street-level beats... do those not fall into the grimy category?

BP for the production, but the rest of those aren't classics.

I like most of Jay-Z's work, but I agree that RD & Vol 1 are his best. I think the most dramatic shift happened after Ether dropped; you listen to the pre-Ether tracks and he commands attention with his delivery. Since then he's been fukking with whisper flows and even when he actually takes time to write well it usually doesn't come off that well.

I see where you are coming from, I can't blame you, I never felt his later stuff as much as I did Reasonable Doubt and vol. 1.
