Of course you can't do that much, but it gives a very bad signal that the US (the so-called "leader of the free world") can't condemn the use of children soldiers. That means any random warlord can say "Well, it's not a violation in the US either". It also undermines efforts of others who are trying to work against this huge issue, and I guess that the US will no longer be providing funds to NGOs dealing directly with the issue on the ground.

I guess it also means that the US Army could treat those kids as regular soldiers/rebels if they ever were to encounter them on the battlefield. This makes me think taht that thread about the US supposedly "preparing a full-scale invasion" in Africa might not be that far-fetched after all.

well first off they are still condemning it, just waiving this law for like 4 countries and saying we can sell them "defense items" again. It's not like these countries wouldn't be able to arm themselves without our help anyways.

Exactly.Or it could mean the C.I.A is about to fund some rebel leader who has a army of child soldiers to do its dirty work.

I think there are two things here: one, the cancellation of teh law against the use of chidren soldiers, two the lifting of the ban to sell arms to specific countries. I'm only talking about the children soldier issue, cancelling the law that outlaws it and STILL condemning it would just be too hypocritical, not that it put it past Washington.

Indeed countries are always gonna find ways to arm themselves, ban or not.
